What did you learn? I not only learned how to create new pages, but how to add new content to previously existing ones. I also learned that it is a lot harder to add false information to a page than I thought it was.
How is writing content for Wikipedia different than writing our first paper? Writing for wiki is different than writing a paper because when writing a paper, my audience is only who I intend it to be. With wiki, my audience is whoever has internet access all around the world.
What makes Wikipedia writing harder? Easier? Coding, format, references, and the wait for review makes writing for wiki more difficult. Just like in Java Script, everything has to be enclosed in tags or brackets to save and show up on the page correctly. We had to look up and refresh our memory a little, and even consult Will (the 3D printer guy) on how to code certain materials. It was fun, but somewhat difficult at times. Working in groups made the task easier because we could work on multiple parts of the project at one time, making the process much faster.
Should I teach this assignment again? If so, what page could students edit? This was an awesome exercise that taught the class a lot about writing for the web. You should have your students edit pages on puppies and koala bears. Those animals are really cute.
